Witness

Witness is a contemporary dance work inspired by the Dunhuang grottoes and the Buddha statues that have remained there through centuries of change. The work follows a figure who embodies Buddha, pilgrim, witness and dust carried by time.

Drawing on the sculptural poses, curved lines and suspended gestures of Dunhuang art, the choreography brings ancient imagery into a contemporary performance language. The work explores memory, faith and the traces left behind by people and history.
